Supporting Your Child’s Growth
and Development
Caring for school-aged children goes far beyond basic spinal checks. Our all-female team at Oasis Chiropractic conducts thorough developmental assessments to help identify sensory processing challenges, auditory processing issues, and coordination difficulties that might affect your child’s learning and physical abilities. We evaluate cognitive function, check for retained primitive reflexes, and assess mental age, giving us a complete picture of your child’s developmental status. Today, our kids face unique physical challenges, from heavy backpacks to increased screen time leading to “tech neck” and postural issues.
How Your Child Might Benefit From Care
Parents often notice subtle signs that their child might benefit from an assessment. Common indicators include toe walking, coordination difficulties, frequent clumsiness or falls, abdominal pain, problems with writing or reading, uneven shoulders, frequent headaches, concentration issues, bed wetting, or behavioural changes. Many kids also experience sleep troubles or digestive problems that may cause discomfort.
These challenges can stem from nervous system tension or developmental patterns that haven’t fully integrated. Our team recognises these patterns and provides appropriate support through gentle, age-appropriate techniques. Unlike adult care, our approach to children is specifically tailored to their developing bodies and nervous systems, with reassessments every six visits to track progress.

Creating a Foundation for Future Health
Regular chiropractic visits allow children’s bodies to grow and function optimally. As your child experiences the typical bumps, falls, and physical challenges of childhood, our care helps maintain proper alignment and nervous system function. This natural, gentle approach helps them meet their developmental milestones more easily and comfortably.
When children begin care early, they also learn valuable health habits that could serve them throughout life. They become more body-aware and understand the connection between how they feel and how they function, which is important knowledge for growing bodies. Our practice philosophy focuses on helping children thrive naturally through all stages of development.
Meet Our Paediatric Chiropractors
The team caring for your children at the practice brings postgraduate paediatric training and experience in family-focused chiropractic care.
Dr Kimberli Forbes-Smith founded Oasis Chiropractic with a specific vision: to support families from preconception, through pregnancy, and into childhood. Dr Kim holds a Bachelor of Chiropractic Science and a Master of Chiropractic, both from Macquarie University, and has been caring for Inglewood families for over two decades.
Her paediatric credentials include a two-year Diplomate in Chiropractic Paediatrics through the Australian College of Chiropractic Paediatrics (ACCP), a Certificate of Prenatal Chiropractic Care from the International College of Paediatric Chiropractic (ICPA), Webster Certification, Spinning Babies training, and MINDD Foundation Practitioner training. She regularly receives referrals from midwives and birth workers across Inglewood, reflecting the trust the perinatal community places in her care.
Dr Mia Bebic has completed the Diplomate in Chiropractic Paediatrics through the Australian College of Chiropractic Paediatrics (DACCP) and has a clinical focus on caring for infants, children, and families. Dr Mia holds a Bachelor of Science (Chiropractic) and a Bachelor of Chiropractic (Clinical) from Murdoch University, is Webster Certified through the ICPA, and is trained in the Spinning Babies technique.
Her passion for children’s health was shaped by her own experience overcoming chronic headaches and migraines from a young age, and she has extended that commitment through voluntary care to rural communities in the Kimberley region of Western Australia.
Dr Tammarine Hong brings a particular interest in paediatric and pregnancy chiropractic care, supported by her dual undergraduate degrees in Science and Clinical Chiropractic from Murdoch University, as well as postgraduate studies in Sacro Occipital Technique® (SOT®) and TMJ dysfunction. Dr Tammy’s approach focuses on supporting healthy movement, function, and family-centred care. She is passionate about helping children and families not just recover, but truly thrive.
Together, this team combines formal qualifications, ongoing professional development, and experience in caring for children and families.
What Happens at Your Child’s First Visit?
Walking through the door with a child may feel uncertain, especially if it is your first time seeing a chiropractor. We have designed the new patient experience to put both you and your child at ease from the moment you arrive.
A Warm Welcome From the Start
When you come in, you will be welcomed by our friendly team and given a short intake form to complete. This covers your child’s health history, any developmental concerns you have noticed, and your goals for care. If you prefer to get this out of the way beforehand, we can send forms ahead of your appointment.
From there, you are invited into our jungle-themed play area while you wait. With an indoor tree and nature-inspired decor, it’s designed to help kids feel like they are somewhere fun, not a clinic. Children who feel relaxed and comfortable often engage more naturally during observation and assessment.

Getting to Know Your Family
Your child’s chiropractor will then take time to meet your whole family. It’s a proper conversation, not a rushed intake. We want to understand the full picture: what your child’s day looks like, where the challenges are, what you would love to see change, and what goals matter most to you as a parent. There are no silly observations. If you have noticed something that seems small or hard to explain, we want to hear it.
A Thorough, Gentle Examination
The examination itself is thorough and gentle. We carry out a series of baseline assessments appropriate to your child’s age, which may include posture and spinal checks, a reflex assessment to identify any retained primitive reflexes, observations of coordination and balance, and a review of gross and fine motor development.
We also look at neurological indicators that may affect learning, behaviour, and sleep. Where indicated, CLA INSiGHT™ neurological scans may be used to give us an objective baseline reading of your child’s nervous system function.
Clear Answers Before You Leave
By the end of the visit, we will have a clear picture of your child’s current status and a starting point for discussing the findings and whether further care or referral may be appropriate. We will explain the findings, answer your questions, and discuss available options, including whether care, monitoring, or referral is appropriate.
Signs That Your Child May Benefit From an Assessment
Parents may seek an assessment when they notice changes in posture, movement, coordination, comfort, or developmental patterns. When concerns fall outside our scope, we may recommend that you discuss them with your GP or another appropriate health professional.
The following signs are among the most common reasons families bring their children to see us:
- Toe walking or unusual gait patterns
- Frequent clumsiness, poor coordination, or unexplained falls
- Uneven shoulders or a visibly tilted posture
- Difficulty with writing, drawing, or other fine motor tasks
- Frequent headaches or neck tension
- Bed wetting beyond the age at which it would typically resolve
These patterns do not always point to a spinal or neurological cause, but they are worth exploring. Many of the children we see have been through a range of assessments elsewhere, and their parents are simply seeking another perspective. Our role is to conduct a thorough developmental evaluation and consider whether musculoskeletal or developmental factors warrant further discussion, monitoring, or referral.
Frequently Asked Questions
What techniques are used for children?
Chiropractors adapt their approach to a child’s age, size, stage of development, and presentation. If care is recommended, the chiropractor will explain the approach, what it involves, and answer your questions before proceeding.
At what age can a child see a chiropractor?
We see children of different ages, including infants, where parents are seeking an assessment or would like to discuss developmental, feeding, settling, posture, or movement concerns.
How many visits will my child need?
What if my child is nervous about visiting a chiropractor?
It is completely normal for children to feel a little uncertain about something new. Our practice has been designed with this in mind. The jungle-themed play area, the nature-inspired decor, and our team’s relaxed and unhurried approach all work together to help little ones feel comfortable before anything else happens. We will never rush your child or proceed with anything they are not ready for. We take a calm, kid-friendly approach and move at a pace that feels appropriate for your child.
What kinds of concerns do parents commonly raise?
Parents may book an assessment when they have questions about their child’s posture, movement patterns, coordination, comfort, or physical development. During the visit, we take a detailed history, perform age-appropriate observations and examination, and explain whether chiropractic care may be appropriate or whether referral to another health professional would be a better next step.
