The warmer weather means more time outdoors, but there are still a few weeks of desks, screens and school bags to get through before the term ends. A few simple checks can help you notice everyday habits or setups that may be worth changing before the holidays arrive. It’s also a good time to encourage regular movement and build healthy habits your child can carry into the more active summer months.
Workstation Check
Whether it’s a desk at home or the kitchen table, take a look at how your child is set up for homework and study. Chairs that are too high or low, or screens sitting at an awkward angle, can encourage slouching without anyone noticing. Small adjustments to their setup can make it easier to maintain a comfortable position.
Posture Check
Long periods at desks or screens can leave some kids feeling uncomfortable through the neck and shoulders. Encourage your child to change positions regularly rather than expecting them to maintain one “perfect” posture all afternoon.
Backpack Check
An overloaded or poorly worn backpack can place unnecessary strain on a child’s body. Check that both straps are being used, the bag sits close to the body, and your child isn’t carrying more than they need for the day.
Screen Time Check
Between schoolwork and downtime, screen time adds up fast. Encourage regular breaks and movement between sessions, especially as the days get longer and there’s more reason to head outside.
If you have concerns about your child’s posture, movement or musculoskeletal comfort, a chiropractic assessment may help determine whether chiropractic care is appropriate. At Oasis Chiropractic, assessments are tailored to each child’s age, stage of development and individual presentation, with referral to another health professional when appropriate.
Our team in Inglewood is happy to discuss your concerns and explain what a paediatric chiropractic assessment involves.
